The Reading Room

Located within the Fitzroy Town Hall, The Reading Room was originally part of the building’s library and features the original floor-to-ceiling bookcases.

This impressive room features 9 chandeliers, a decorative ceiling, polished floorboards and heritage paintwork.

Its warm and welcoming interior makes it a popular choice for weddings, performances and cocktail events for up to 100 people. It can also be hired in conjunction with the Fitzroy Town Hall ballroom as a breakout space or ceremony location.

Restrictions and Further Information

  • All functions must finish by 11pm Sunday to Thursday or by 1am Fridays and Saturdays.
  • Fitzroy Town Hall is in a residential area; noise levels must be monitored.
  • You must supply their own cutlery, crockery, glassware and linen.
  • You may choose your own caterer; names of recommended caterers can be provided upon request.
  • This is not a licensed venue. You must apply for a temporary limited licence if you intend to sell alcohol. If you wish to supply alcohol free of charge, you must submit a Partysafe form to Victoria Police.

How to book

If you’re a registered user and have booked a venue with us before, you can log on to make a new booking.

If you’re a first-time user, please register with us.

If you are from an organisation, please ensure you register your organisation and book in the organisation’s name.

Not-for-profit groups may be eligible for a discounted rate. You must first contact us on 9205 5555 or info@yarracity.vic.gov.au to get verified for a discounted rate.

You will be required to pay a security bond to confirm your booking.

To be considered for the not for profit and concession rates, you will need to show evidence of your eligibility at the time of booking. Some restrictions may apply.

A Town Hall Subsidy Grant is available to eligible organisations.

*Additional Venue Support Officers may be required in addition to the hire fee depending on the complexity and nature of the event.
