Our Arts and Cultural programs are driven by a single objective: To make arts and culture an everyday experience in our city.
We design our programs in response to the needs and aspirations of our community including; residents, artists, arts organisations and businesses.
We take a holistic approach, from developing and delivering our arts and cultural activities, through to designing unique public spaces and environments. Our aim is to be creative, flexible, nimble and responsive, and to highlight our local creative sector to advance our cultural, social, environmental and economic development.
Our Arts and Cultural Strategy sets out a strategic framework that guides Council action to sustain the municipality’s cultural vibrancy. Yarra has a high percentage of residents who are creative artists, musicians and performers. It is our aim to make arts and culture in Yarra easier to practice and easier to participate in.
Council seeks formal advice on its arts and cultural policies, strategies and initiatives through the Yarra Arts Advisory Committee (YAARTS) and its subcommittees, the Visual Arts Panel (VAP) and Room to Create Panel. The Committees are comprised of community members from Yarra based arts and cultural organisations, artists and creative industries.
