Creative Yarra Triennial Grants
Creative Yarra offers 3 years of fixed funding from January 2017 to December 2019 for individual creative practitioners and organisations to deliver arts and cultural activities within the City of Yarra. The total amount provided is $170,000 per annum.
Creative Yarra is designed to provide security and reduce administration costs so that we can enable creative projects to be developed over a 3 year period, support our creative organisations to build greater capacity and to deliver the best outcomes in our City.
Successful applicants
Successful applicants are offered 3 years of funding up to $20,000 per annum for organisations and up to $10,000 per annum for individuals with no further guarantees of future funding.
Successful Creative Yarra applicants may apply for other funding initiatives offered by us, but cannot be funded by multiple funding initiatives for the same activity.
Open to organisations
Creative Yarra is open to organisations providing dynamic and valuable arts and cultural activities in the City of Yarra and prioritises those with a proven track record and well-articulated plans. Organisations may apply for operational and/or project funding.
Individual creative practitioners
For the first time, Creative Yarra is also open to individual creative practitioners who will need to demonstrate a commitment to realising a project or body of work over a three year timeframe and be able to clearly demonstrate the outcomes of this work in their proposal.
Proposed activities
The proposed activities may take any art form but must be of high cultural and artistic merit and show a clear relevance with Yarra’s community. Whilst innovation and dynamism are valued, the activity does not need to be new.

Room to create responsive grants
Yarra is often referred to as an “engine room” for the arts because of the many small to medium sized arts organisations that make up much of our creative footprint. There are over 50 live music venues, more than 60 galleries and artist run spaces, and numerous creative hubs and studios.
The Room to Create Responsive Grant Program are quick response grants, intended to help creative spaces and live music venues stay in Yarra.
Program pool
The Program pool is $25,000 per annum and funding is capped at $2,000 for a standalone grant or at $5,000 for a matching grant – when the applicant is able to make a matching contribution towards the project.
Room to Create Charitable Fund Grants
We are supporting the activities of our artists through Room to Create, that is working to ensure that our creative communities have places to practice and develop their art within the city. The total for these grants is $10,000 per annum but it is variable.
