Super Special was initially developed during artist Wendy McLean’s Yarra City Arts ‘Room to Create’ residency in 2021.

With determination (but no fixed ideas), she developed a manuscript, incorporating loose drawings, torn up magazines and piles and piles of scribbled notes to produce Super Special and Sun Shower, an illustrated novella split into two to be read front to back, or back to front.

  Set between two cities the book is a tale of loss, love and finding self. Lizzy returns to Melbourne after losing her husband. She clings to the past as she comes to terms with her loss. Her husband’s best friend and business partner is left behind in Tokyo, trying to make peace with his own part of the story.
