Temporal Proximities is an exhibition of moving image, installation and performance unfolding over three evenings. Temporal Proximities is the inaugural project of the Convent’s Magdalen Laundries Program following their recent conservation and restoration.

Temporal Proximities
features work by contemporary Australian artists which reflect on notions of agency, displacement and time. The exhibition highlights interdisciplinary and process-based practices by foregrounding artists who work across video, performance, sculpture, installation and photography.

A combination of new site-specific commissions and existing works have been installed in response to the unique architectural features of the venue to enact spatial and temporal gestures that operate in dialogue with one another – as well as other places and times.

Exploring concepts such as suspension, extension, transformation, circulation and drift, the artworks unfold, loop and reconfigure themselves throughout the course of the exhibition. A number of works involve live performative elements that may be intermittent or durational. Something will always be happening, but not everything will be happening all at once. A loose schedule of cycles, sequences and trigger points will follow the natural fall of light across twilight until 9.00pm

Audiences are invited to arrive at any time and explore the spaces and works as they please. Refreshments will be available each evening from 6.00 to 9.00pm.
