A Nice Day To Go To The Pub

Thursday 15 March 2018 - Friday 30 March 2018

Simon O’Carrigan The Tote Hotel 2017, ink and watercolour on paper, 42 cm x 30 cm

Simon O’Carrigan works as a freelance illustrator. He studied fine arts at the Victorian College of the Arts and later at Monash University. Since graduating in 2007, he has staged 14 solo exhibitions and has shown his animated films in over twenty festivals worldwide.

A Nice Day To Go To The Pub is an exhibition of fine art prints made from original ink and watercolour drawings at the Off The Kerb Gallery.  Inspired by the area immediately around his Collingwood studio, O’Carrigan has been making drawings of urban scenes for some time now. The artworks depict popular pubs, watering holes and live music venues such as The Tote in Collingwood.

O’Carrigan originally created the drawing of The Tote to raise funds for the 2017 PBS Radio Festival. He then received requests for other venues, such as The Old Bar and Labour in Vain, so he decided to create more drawings to exhibit as a series. Off The Kerb gallery is right in the heart of the live music area, so people can check out the exhibition on the way through to catch some live music at one of Yarra’s music venues.

O’Carrigan aims to celebrate the live music venues within Yarra that add to our community, including The Tote, The Old Bar, The Gasometer, Labour in Vain, The Corner Hotel and more.
