Yarra City Council invites Artists or Artist groups to submit an Expression of Interest for the Room to Create Artist in Residence program.

Two 12 month residencies are open to artists as individuals, partnerships or collectives. Successful applicants will receive free and exclusive use of one of two nominated spaces:

Florence Peel Centre, Meeting Room, Fitzroy (12 months)

North Carlton Children’s Centre, Carlton North (12 months)

Applications for the two spaces close on 11:59pm Tuesday 17 January 2023 and residencies will commence late February 2023.

These residencies are part of Yarra City Council’s Room to Create Program, which aims to maintain and protect arts activity in Yarra by providing support for eligible artists or groups to work in council managed spaces. To apply, artists are required to submit an EOI via the Yarra City Council Smarty Grants Portal and attend a site visit prior to their application.

The Room to Create Program encompasses a range of initiatives by the City of Yarra to help keep the arts in Yarra. As the City continues to change, presenting challenges to creatives, arts and cultural organisations, Council is providing support to keep Yarra a vibrant, creative centre for the arts through a number of Council-owned spaces, making it easier for creatives to have access to spaces. The Room to Create Artist-in-Residency Program commenced in late 2017 as a pilot program, across three under-utilised council buildings. Since then, the program has grown to include several more spaces with eleven artists of varied disciplines.
