Presented by the Italian Cultural Institute of Melbourne, Tools For After, a Festival of Ideas (14 September - 10 October) bringing the brightest minds in design, architecture and climate science from Italy to Melbourne in September.

The six-week festival will take place across multiple venues in Melbourne, and sets out to celebrate Italian ingenuity through programs of design, architecture, science, food, cinema, and literature, through the mediums of film, visual art, design, workshops, talks, and tastings.

By exploring innovative solutions to the critical challenges due to the significant impact of human activities on the Earth's ecosystems and geology, the festival asks the question “what are the tools we will need to face the future?”

This Festival is a new initiative from the winning project in the Festival of Italian Creativity competition of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs who are in partnership with the City of Yarra (architecture design exhibition), RMIT Faculty of Art (cinema) and others.

The Tools For Architecture Exhibition aims to rethink materials and building practices during the Anthropocene era. The exhibition presents materials of alternative, ecological, natural, and biotechnological for an effective and possible building culture, rather than architects themselves. The program will see proposals ranging from ancient construction culture to vegetal architecture and projects for the environment of people on other planets.

Tools For After Design Exhibition focuses on the innovation of design culture in Italy. The exhibition features over 50 carefully selected objects from the latest generation of designers, showcasing their proposals, materials, and strategies to face the future. In collaboration with several design schools, the exhibition is centred around the urgent questions posed by the topic: what action must we take in the Anthropocene era?

Tools For Architecture Exhibition, Fitzroy Town Hall is a free exhibition open from 10am-6pm Tuesday – Sunday, 14- September – 10 October.
