The North Carlton Railway Community House have been busy with their local community welcoming people safety back to the centre through a community language ‘Welcome Sign Project’.

The project, originally inspired by the need to divert a 2020 in-person Princes Hill Harmony Day celebration, due to COVID restrictions, saw the development of new community welcome signage to be placed at the front entrance to the House. Painting workshops with the local community created a safe, creative and fun way for the local community to come together again.

The project aimed to increase inter-cultural awareness and build connection. In turn, the Railway House team hope the project will develop their capacity to provide a welcoming, inclusive and safe space for diverse community members.

Local artist Deb Williams facilitated the project and assisted with sign artwork, through two community painting sessions involving approximately 40 community members. Artist Sharyn Lovett also contributed her Koori design work and a Woiwurrung language sign.

Stay tuned for community picnic and launch event in Spring.
