A statement from Yarra City Council regarding Yarra’s response to coronavirus (COVID-19)

Monday 23 March 2020

To respond to the escalating crisis posed by the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and recent directives from the Victorian and Federal governments, Yarra City Council has made further changes to its services and programs.

Yarra Council’s customer service centres at Richmond Town Hall, Collingwood Town Hall, Bargoonga Nganjin North Fitzroy Library and the Connie Benn Centre will be closed effective from Tuesday 24 March 2020 until further notice.

Community members can still contact us by:

Our autumn Vacation Care program, After School Care and school crossing supervisor services will be suspended, effective from Tuesday 24 March 2020 until further notice.

All Yarra Libraries chutes will also be closed from 6pm Tuesday 24 March 2020 until further notice, to prevent overflow. Yarra Libraries does not charge late fees and is offering indefinite renewals on all items. Members are encouraged to keep their items at home and use the online library to access our wide range of online resources of e-books, audiobooks and more.

These changes are in addition to the Yarra Libraries, Yarra Leisure and Yarra Youth Services closures announced last week.

We continue to deliver a range of essential services, including:

  • Household waste and recycling collection
  • Inspection of any alleged dangerous buildings
  • Childcare and kindergartens (until further advice from the Victorian Government)
  • Immunisations
  • Support for vulnerable members of our community
  • Parking and traffic services.

Other important community services, including processing of planning applications, will also continue.

We acknowledge that these measures are unprecedented, however we are committed to protecting the health, wellbeing and safety of our community and workforce.

Yarra Council will continue to keep its community updated over the coming weeks and months. We encourage community members to follow us on social media and register for e-updates at yarracity.vic.gov.au/news for local and up-to-date information.
