Adrian Mauriks 

Corner Bridge Road and Hoddle Street, Richmond

Opus 15 was commissioned as one of three works by the City of Richmond as part of an Urban Arts Square project in 1993 within a broader landscaping upgrade for the site.

The original brief specified a ‘decorative ironwork associated with opening in existing wall.’  

The sculpture is a series of mythical and plant like forms with a gold eye which dazzles and watches over the square.

The work was restored in May 2016 by Meridian Sculpture.

Adrian Mauriks is a significant Australian sculptor. His studied at the Victorian College Of The Arts, majoring in fine art and taught at numerous universities, including University of Melbourne and Ballarat University between 1979 and the end of 1996.

Previous solo exhibitions have been held at Irving Sculpture Gallery (now Sherman Galleries), Sydney; William Mora Galleries, Richmond and Icon Museum of Art at Deakin University, Melbourne.

The artist’s work is represented in numerous public and private collections in Australia, as well as overseas, and also includes public sculptures such as Silence (2001) commissioned by MAB Corp for Docklands in Melbourne; Bird Totem (1988) for AMP in George Street, Sydney; Source (2005) commissioned by City of Darebin for Bundoora Park; Compilation (2003) for Deakin University, Burwood; Mildura Arts Centre (2015) Mildura, and Macquarie University Sculpture Collection (2015) in Sydney.

His awards have included Arts Victoria’s International Cultural Exchange Program Award, Victorian College of the Arts Sculpture Prize and Winner of the Regional Artists Award at the Lorne Sculpture Exhibition (2007).
