Clearing

Cleaning by Sophia Szilagyi

Clearing (2011) is a digital print by Sophia Szilagyi, a Yarra based artist whose local landscape is a part of her palette, in particular the sky and the Merri Creek area. Images of these are built up into the many layers that make up her work.

Often striking and emotive, Szilagyi’s work is inspired by nature and employs a detailed process of layering to create depth.

In capturing the beauty and grandeur found in the physical world, she also charts an internalised topography, giving form to unseen emotional and imaginative experience.

Szilagyi is a talented mid-career Melbourne based artist who works within the realm of digital printmaking.

In 2011 she was awarded the Banyule Award for Works on Paper. Her work is held in numerous private and public collections including but not limited to Artbank, Print Council of Australia, State Library of Victoria, Parliament of Australia ACT and Queensland University of Technology Art Museum.
