Ying Huang
Eddy Court, Abbotsford
The Collingwood Senior Citizen’s Centre features an artwork painted on its exterior and façade.
Artist Ying Huang produced the whimsical and welcoming imagery, which includes mother nature surrounded by native plants, a Greek island scene and sculptures, magpies and a mother playing with her child.
The work draws upon the users of the centre, including their cultural influence to Yarra, and also the local landscape.
Aged Services and Arts & Cultural Services partnered together for this project as part of the broad works to improve the appearance and access to this key venue.
Off the Kerb Gallery was engaged to curate the commission and consult with local community members in the development of the project.
The artwork was painted over three weeks in January 2016.
Ying Huang is a Chinese-born Australian artist whose practice crosses formats and media. Huang has won awards from the Print Council of Australia (based at Fitzroy Town Hall), the Flanagan Art Prize, Ballarat, and RMIT University.
Her work has been exhibited throughout Australia, including Hong Kong and Scotland.
