Luke George (lutruwita-Tasmania, 1978) is a performance + visual artist and ropeworker residing and creating on Wurundjeri and Boon Wurrung Country. Luke's work takes him across Australia, Asia, Europe and North America, with notable presentations at the Venice Biennale, Dance Massive (Melbourne), National Galleries of both Victoria and Singapore, Rencontres chorégraphiques de Seine-Saint-Denis (Paris), Time Based Art Festival (Portland) and more.

Luke’s artistic practice is informed by queer politics, whereby people are neither singular nor isolated; bodies of difference can intersect, practice mutual listening, take responsibility for themselves and one another. Luke’s works explore risk and intimacy and employ daring and at times, unorthodox methods, to create further possibilities for artist and audience to connect. Luke works across the artistic disciplines of choreography, installation, craft, fashion and photography. Currently obsessed with rope as a medium to explore tensions and connectivity, he intersects the function and craft of macramé with the aesthetics and dynamics of rope bondage to explore the body, desire and queerness.

A highly awarded and commissioned artist, Luke was a 2019 Australia Council for the Arts Fellowship recipient, in 2020 appointed Artistic Associate of Temperance Hall and to the Co-Design Consultation for a dedicated dance festival in Melbourne and in 2022 designing a permanent installation commissioned for Naarm’s newly built Victorian Pride Centre.
