WORKING TEXT is a group exhibition showing works by Nina Ross, Lizzy Sampson, Jessie Scott and Hanna Tai.

Drawing on individual experiences to interrogate the use of political and personal language, the works reflect on different forms of labour, be it the labour of parenting, being an artist, going to work, or getting through the day.

Nina Ross works with video, photography and text to interrogate personal experiences of using and sharing language. Additionally, Nina works collaboratively including cofounding Artists’ Committee, Artists’ Subcommittee, Artists/Parents and Imagining a Future Collective. In 2013 Nina received a Master of Fine Art (Research) from Monash University and was awarded the Vice-Chancellor’s Commendation for Master’s Excellence Award.

Lizzy Sampson has been making, producing and collaborating in the arts for over a decade. Her contemporary arts practice includes sculpture, painting, installation, photography and text-based works. Themes in Lizzy’s work include consumption, economies, public service, work, energy, bureaucracy, ownership, labour and the politics of care relating to parenting. Lizzy has a Master of Fine Art, Bachelor of Media Arts and Diploma of Visual Arts.

Jessie Scott is an independent video artist, writer and programmer. She is a founding member of audiovisual art collective Tape Projects, and co-directed and founded the inaugural Channels Video Art Festival in 2013. She is currently completing a PhD in art at RMIT University and raising two children.

Hanna Tai explores how photography, painting, video, sound, textile works, and sculpture can be used to make ordinary experience seem unfamiliar. Often using humour, she unpicks her chosen media in order to understand its material and durational properties and to reveal something new about the way we see things. She is a founding member of the LAST Collective, Concrete Post and Art/Parents.
