Power Point marries screen-based graphic culture with a performative gesture from the BOOreaucrats. The mural depicts two administrators (the BOOreaucrats) in full business suits walking into the sea surrounded by emoji hands. A feeling of being ‘at sea’, of confusion and instability is evoked. Contemporary digital signs come from a long history of signs drawing attention and giving direction dating back to the fifteenth century. As universal symbols, they transcend, and compliment written language. What are these hands pointing at? Are the BOOreaucrats following directions clicked from the ether of the internet? Or are they being clicked at? These dedicated officials seem slightly off balance. Are they tentatively negotiating the endless subject of a shifting body of water? The sea looks calm now, but the potential coming of great waves and powerful forces is perpetually present.
