During the lockdown of 2020 and inspired by the tradition of political posters created in historical moments, a group of artists from Extinction Rebellion (XR) Arts Team produced hundreds of posters at J Studios (North Fitzroy) to share messages of solidarity, beautify public spaces and sound the alarm on the climate emergency.

A significant record of both local civic protest and the turbulent experiences of the pandemic, bushfires and the ecological crisis of 2020-21, these posters were recently acquired for the City of Yarra Collection.

Originating in London (2019), XR is a decentralised movement with networks in 84 counties. Politically non-partisan and strictly non-violent, XR uses direct action and civil disobedience to pressure governments to act justly on the climate and ecological emergency.

Discover the posters at Fitzroy Library during opening hours.
