Braided Season 2

Wednesday 05 August 2020 - Wednesday 30 December 2020

The Artful Dodgers Studios is proud to announce the launch of Braided Season 2: A Little Life Under Lockdown

Braided is a podcast that threads together the intimate, challenging, and triumphant stories of a group of young people from diverse cultural backgrounds who are living with difficult life circumstances. Braided weaves a vivid tapestry of lives rarely glimpsed.

This is the sound of Braided under lockdown. In this six-part season, listen in as the show’s makers share the frustrations of their buzzing fridges, the saving grace of Animal Crossing, and the peculiar camaraderie of this solitary time.

They take you inside their dreams, and out where they walk in the small hours. They bring you in on the phone calls they make, and the bedrooms they record in. They sit you in on group story meetings. And further in, on that which occupies their private hours—be that pending dread, navigating an all-white household during the Black Lives Matter protests, or the longing for the day they can, once again, get their hair braided among friends. Amongst other things…

Reggie shares moments and musings from lockdown in a series of daily missives from his desk.

Matisse & Mary bring you a fast, feisty chat about being young and black during this pandemic.

Georgia Willmott brings you the collective dreams we make together, while we are apart.

Join hosts Matisse Laida and Agum Maluach as they guide you through their own stories and the rest of the Braided team scattered around Melbourne. They are Georgia Willmott, Reggie Chang, Kim Handley, Danny Hillyer, Mary Kato, and Elijah Augustine.

Produced by Series Producer and Mentor-Producer Michelle Macklem (Constellations, 7am, documentaries for BBC, CBC, ABC RN) and Mentor-Producers Joel Supple (Melbourne University podcasts, SBS), Louise Terry (Louise Terra, Sugar Fed Leopards), and Jaye Kranz (documentaries for BBC & ABC RN).

Braided: A Little Life During Lockdown is more than just a podcast. It’s a tiny community of people who’ve made this pandemic more possible for each other.

‘This has been a journey of self-discovery, friendship, learning and growth.’

— Agum, Braided co-host.
