Walking the Wood 2023 is a vibrant arts & culture festival emerging from the creative epicentre of Yarra. With the extraordinary survival and revival of creative enterprises post pandemic in the lower Johnston Street locale, Walking the Wood aims to celebrate and share in its extensive offering to local and international visitors.

The festival will run over the weekend 24 to 26 November and will feature, exhibitions, street art tours, artist talks, artist markets and an after-party.

Exhibition openings:

Backwoods Gallery will launch their annual group exhibition BACKW13DS.

Off the Kerb Gallery will launch Melbourne street artists, Tinky and Manda Lane and local artists Ryan Pola and Cat Parker.

These exhibitions will open on Friday 24 November 6pm-9pm

Melbourne Street Tours will guide you through one of the best outdoor galleries in the world – the laneways of Collingwood. You will hear first-hand about the street artists, their influences and social issues, technical aspects of spray painting, stencil art and paste-ups, and all about the significant role street artists have played in making Melbourne one of the most important destinations worldwide for street art. The key feature on this tour will be the Keith Haring mural on Johnston Street.

Artist Talk: Entry is free

Tinky will at give her artist talk at Off the Kerb Gallery on Sunday 26 November 2023 2pm-230pm.

Artist Market:
Visitors to the festival will get free entry to the Walking the Wood artist market at Lamington Drive Gallery on Saturday 25 November & Sunday 26 November 11am to 5pm both days.
