A community song for the silly season
Monday 09 November 2020
We're creating our very own community song to celebrate the silly season, and we need your help.
With the help of Belgium Avenue Neighbourhood House (BANH Inc.) and local artists Izzy Brown, Racerage, Laneous and Nick Martyn, we're celebrating the end of 2020 with a crowdsourced song. The only thing missing is you!
Local artist, Izzy Brown, has written a song for us to help celebrate the end of 2020 and we need your help bringing it to life.
The song is called Second Chance and it celebrates a brighter future for next year and beyond.
Always considered yourself to be a carpool karaoke queen or a titan of TikTok? Well now's the time to show it off. Sing, dance, hum, rap, add in a few bars of your own or just show us how you like to listen to it.

About the artists
Izzy Brown – songwriter
Izzy Brown is a musician, rapper, community workshop facilitator, filmmaker, vocalist in hip-hop act Combat Wombat and founder of the United Struggle Project. Izzy has run hundreds of workshops and events since 2000 in over six different countries including Afghanistan, Palestine and Kenya; as well as in remote Aboriginal communities in Australia. Workshops have been held in refugee camps, slums and prisons where Izzy records music and creates videos allowing people to express their stories.
Racerage is a queer Blak radical, post-internet rapper based on Wurundjeri country, who has been described as "the future of Melbourne music". Their lyrical themes draw from their background in spoken word, focussing on the struggles and frustrations of their lived experiences as a Blak non-binary queer. Their rhymes explore intersectional feminism, decolonisation, race issues and life in the queer bubble, sprinkled with relatable humour. Racerage collaborates primarily with other Queer, Trans and/or Intersex People of Colour (QTIPOC) beatmakers and artists and is excited about creating music within their communities.
Laneous – guitar
Your favourite musicians’ favourite musician. Lachlan Mitchell (Laneous) emerged from culture-rich, music-art bohemian West End, Brisbane as the leading member of funk group, Kafka. Self-taught, prodigious and naively fearless, Kafka – led by Mitchell’s ‘Mr. Laneous’ hit the Australian festival circuit, where he developed a reputation in Queensland as a wild festival frontman. In 2016, Mitchel relocated to Melbourne, a move that was a long time coming, and leapt to action when offered a stage at the pending Strawberry Fields festival. Excited to create new music with Laneous, Paul Bender and Simon Mavin of Hiatus Kaiyote, Donny Stewart (vibraphone and flugehorn) and Hudson Whitlock (drums) came on board swiftly as collaborators for the event.
Nick Martyn – drums
Nick Martyn is a drummer and performer extraordinaire who has played music everywhere except Antarctica in the last 12 years. Since finishing music school in 2007, Nick has worked with countless Australian artists including Gotye, Harry Angus (The Cat Empire), Matt Corby, DD Dumbo and Husky. As a founding member of soul extravaganza Clairy Browne & The Bangin’ Rackettes, Nick entered international touring life from 2010-2015. Since then, he has toured Australia with NYC punk icon James Chance and The Contortions, performed globally with Circus Oz and studied traditional folkloric rhythms in Havana, Cuba under master drummer Changuito.
