Sculpture series closed due to COVID-19 restrictions
Melbourne sculptor Kenny Pittock created a series of nineteen individual ceramic sculptures, which were exact replicas of nineteen different signs hanging on the front doors and windows of businesses throughout the City of Yarra and Melbourne CBD, written as messages from the businesses to their customers about their closures due to COVID-19.
'The response to this project was overwhelming, and the way that people have so positively responded to these sculptures both in person and on social media has been incredibly moving and special' says Kenny.
The aim of the project was to bring the global discussions around the economic impacts of this pandemic back down to a local, community level. In turn, the work reflected the heart and heartache behind the businesses affected by Covid-19.
‘The grant allowed me the opportunity to create one of my favourite and most special series of sculptures I've made to date.’ All 19 works are now part of the City of Melbourne collection.
