Cr Danae Bosler has been elected as Yarra City Council’s Mayor for 2018/19.

Cr Bosler, Labor Party member and passionate community advocate, was elected unopposed at a Special Council Meeting on 27 November.

“I am honoured to serve the Yarra community as Mayor. I’m committed to listening to and advocating for Yarra residents and workers.  

“I look forward to being a strong advocate to the State Government on behalf of our community. There’s a number of exciting projects in the pipeline at the state level that will bring great benefits to Yarra. I’ll be working hard to ensure these projects are delivered in the coming year.

“Yarra is home to a wonderfully diverse community. One of my priorities is to ensure everyone – no matter where they were born, the colour of their skin or the work they do – feels included and has access to the services they need,” said Cr Bosler.

In her acceptance speech, Cr Bosler paid tribute to the many inspiring people she has encountered during her time as a councillor.

“Our city is made great by its activists, volunteers and community leaders. Like them, I’ll work hard to make Yarra a sustainable, just and inclusive place for all,” she said.

A resident of Collingwood, Cr Bosler was first elected as a Langridge Ward councillor in 2016. She works in the trade union movement and has been active on numerous grassroots climate action and public transport campaigns.

At the same council meeting, Cr Misha Coleman was re-elected as Deputy Mayor for a second year, and outgoing mayor Cr Daniel Nguyen was acknowledged for his leadership over the past 12 months.
