Winged Face

Winged face seat

Giuseppe Raneri

Corner Brunswick Street and Victoria Street, Fitzroy

In 2013 Giuseppe Raneri was commissioned to produce two mosaic seats to join Yarra City Council’s Public Art Collection, including a replacement to the much loved Winged Face seat that was vandalized and destroyed in early 2012.

The new Winged Face has been reinstated on its curb out-stand opposite its partner Sun on the corners of Victoria Street and Brunswick Street, Fitzroy.

There are now four Raneri seats in total located along Brunswick Street; this includes two original seats which were commissioned as a suite by the former City of Fitzroy in 1992.

Giuseppe Raneri was born in Italy and emigrated to Australia with his parents in 1964. He has exhibited widely and formerly operated his own studio and gallery in Johnston Street, Fitzroy.

The seats celebrate the diversity and creativity of Brunswick Street and the music, food and sun. The artist’s Italian heritage has a strong influence on his imagery and wider practice.
