Barkly Gardens is a large park in the heart of bustling Richmond, perfect spot for family picnics, dog walking and exercise. Officially opened in 1867, Barkly Gardens is Richmond’s only 19th century residential garden square.

The shady trees and green lawns make it a great place to relax.

Personal Trainers are welcome to use the soccer/cricket ground if not already in use for approved sporting events (including training). Please note personal trainers may not use the gardens to conduct training sessions.

Barkly Gardens is wheelchair accessible, including accessible parking and bathroom facilities. 

Designated areas available for hire

To book the park for an event, you will require an event permit. Please review the map of bookable areas and complete an online application form

  • Vehicle entry to Barkly Gardens requires a separate permit.
  • The small rotunda within Barkly Gardens is not available for hire. It is available on a first come, first use basis.
  • Alcohol may be consumed within the parks between 9am and 9pm. Alcohol may not be sold within the parks without an appropriate temporary liquor license.
