Landscapes of the Mind
Landscapes of the Mind is an exhibition by Ria Ganis exploring the spontaneous nature of creativity. Creative ideas often begin in a context of control, but eventually the process of the artist takes on a life of its own.
Featuring a series of new paintings created, photographed and then printed on to acrylic, silk or matte paper to appear like landscapes. These mesmerising works are reminiscent of geographical, geological and celestial plains which have a gentle gravitational pull. With titles like Indigo Deep, Tidal, Blue Planet and Deluge, they allude to the representative (earthly landscapes or natural phenomena) but are simultaneously rich and joyful fields of abstraction.
The artist states - ‘I believe that it is the serendipity of this process that is the delight of creativity. In this series of images, I aspire to create a mood of meditation and freedom to wander the landscape of your mind.’
Landscapes of the Mind was exhibited at the Richmond Town Hall from 3 February to 24 April 2018.
