Josephine Mead is a visual artist, writer and curator based in Naarm (Melbourne). She works through photography, sculpture, installation and text to explore personal notions of support.
Her recent work has positioned female family members as support-structures, explored notions of deep listening, and examined the temporal/sonic nature of language. She has been published and exhibited widely, in Australia and abroad.
She has undertaken the Arquetopia Foundation Residency (Mexico), the Kings Emerging Writer’s Program, the Macfarlane Fund Residency (Kyneton), the Tasarim Bakkali Residency (Turkey), the Córtex Frontal Residency (Portugal) and the ZK/U Residency at Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik (Germany).
Josephine has recently been appointed as an Artistic Director for Blindside Gallery.
Josephine Mead is a current studio artist in the Room to Create/Collingwood Yards studio.
