Soft Furnishings by Tracey Lamb
Thursday 10 February 2022 - Sunday 17 April 2022
Soft Furnishings is a series of 12 wall sculptures inspired by the textile designs created by women during the 1950s and 60s. Lamb has approached this series with a feminist critique as textile design has long been viewed as women’s work consigned to the sidelines of art and design history. The abstracted forms and colour palettes in Lamb’s sculptures have been influenced by and attributed to each designer, celebrating their story and acknowledging their significant contribution to the enduring aesthetic of mid-century modernism.
Tracey Lamb works from her home studio based in Naarm/Melbourne. She has a BFA (Visual Art) Hons from the VCA and an MFA (Research) from Monash University and is a self-taught welder who creates steel sculptures based on fragments and geometries sourced from mid-century design and architecture.
