as Country
PETER WAPLES-CROWE

Queer as Country, wild as Country, loving as Country, healing as Country. Country is who we are. I don’t live on my Country. Dreaming of Country. Standing on Country. Displaced from Country. And reconnecting to Country.

Peter Waples-Crowe is a multi-discipline, Melbourne-based artist. His intersecting experiences as a queer, Ngarigu person, who works across community health and arts organisations gives him a unique perspective as an artist and community cultural development worker. Informed by his work in the Aboriginal community sector, Waples-Crowe’s art explores the everyday interactions and contradictions of living on someone else’s Country─and away from his own Country. Employing a number of mediums, and injecting a big dose of humor, Waples-Crowe’s practice tries to make sense of his lived experiences and his Ngarigu spirit.
