Victoria Street Lunar Festival with a difference!  

The Victoria Street Lunar Festival returns in 2021 by welcoming the Year of the Ox. This year, the Vietnamese heart of Richmond comes to life in true hawker food style focusing on the outdoor dining experience. Local restaurants will extend their trade to footpath dining, and 6 food stalls will be located along Victoria Street, each with their own dining areas. Like any restaurant operating in Melbourne at the moment, guests will be asked to check in using the QR code system we've all become accustomed to. 

The event will operate as a COVIDsafe event and is able to proceed with some changes which means regular activities such as carnival rides, eating competitions and entertainment stages will not be included in this year’s programming. 

Whilst we encourage people to visit Victoria Street and support local businesses, we urge attendees to stay safe and socially distance by finding a spot at one of many outdoor dining spots.

During the day, expect to see the famous Lion Dance, Dragon dancers and firecrackers. The Victoria Street Lunar Festival has become one of the most popular Lunar New Year celebrations in Victoria. We invite people of all cultural backgrounds to commemorate the start of the Chinese New Year with food and firecrackers.

Temporary closure of Victoria Street, Abbotsford

Due to the Victoria Street Lunar Festival taking place on Sunday 24 January, Victoria Street will be closed between Hoddle and Church streets (see map below) at 11.59pm Saturday 23 January and will re-open at approximately 5.00am on Monday 25 January 2021.

Tow Away

Victoria Street (between Hoddle and Church Street) Richmond will be a tow-away area to facilitate the traffic management for the Victoria Street Lunar Festival. This tow-away area takes affect at 4.00pm on Saturday 23 January 2021 and expires at 5:00 am on Monday 25 January 2021.
