The Motely Bauhaus presents Rhythmic Inverses, a collection of works by Sophie Fox. This installation and sculpture based work is an investigation into stained glass processes.

The works employ heat formed acrylic combined with stained glass technology to create organic, fluid forms, framed by lead came and punctuated with traditional glass panes.

Fox is a process driven artist whose techniques borrow from artisanal craftsmanship whilst transforming the conventions and practicalities that is historically inherit in the language of stained glass. Her father, a jeweller, and her mother, a costumier, Fox draws on her familial relationship along with her years as a dancer as inspiration for her fluid sculptures.

In this show Fox will re-visit some of the acrylic and glass forms from the 2018 VCA Graduate exhibition and reconfigure them to respond to the unique, angular spaces of the Motley Bauhaus. This exhibition challenges a conventional install of works, doing away with the white plinth and traditional gallery lighting.

"I’ve always been a maker, and there is a legacy to the art of making. The intimate attention an artist devotes to the skills of their craft is exemplified in burnt fingers, scarred hands and muscle memory. The homage to Craftsmanship isn’t an indulgence in narcissism but a love letter to those who taught them, and those that came before them." – Sophie Fox
