Lexical: A survey of artwork by Kim Salmon

Wednesday 21 November 2018 - Sunday 25 November 2018

Kim Salmon, 'Bedroom', acrylic on canvas board, c.1973

Best known as seminal Australian singer, songwriter and guitarist, Kim Salmon is also a visual artist, poet and narrative performer. Coinciding with Melbourne Music Week, Lexical (a survey of artwork by Kim Salmon), lifts the veil on Salmon's visual art practice - honed behind the scenes over four decades since officially declaring himself an art school drop out.

'Lexical' refers to Salmon's vocabulary of visual tricks, marks and symbols that render visual scenarios, which in turn suggest or spell out narratives about objects, places and people. The process of recording and rendering visual cues as recognisable images is Salmon's method of making sense of the world, engaging with it and exerting agency in it.

This exhibition is supported by the City of Yarra Small Projects Grant program.
