Collision Level
Friday 17 August 2018 - Sunday 02 September 2018
Collision Level explores the connection between our mobile devices, subjective ways of seeing and memory.
The videos in this exhibition were created from several incidental and forgotten snapshots which the artist found while reviewing her phone’s photo gallery. By collaging these forgotten moments, Berndt recreates imaginary spaces and narratives that seem both familiar and ambiguous. Composed of private and public spaces and hybrid landscapes, Berndt’s video installation presents a glimpse into an invented memory, made up of forgotten images from the artist's everyday surroundings.
Corinna Berndt is a Melbourne based artist working across multiple mediums, including sculpture, collage and video. Her practice investigates the tension between corporeal and digital experiences, often exploring interactions between objects and bodies on screen. Her layered videos and images investigate multiple possibilities of manipulating the image space of the screen.
Berndt has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Auckland, New Zealand, and has recently completed a Masters of Fine Arts at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne. Previously she has shown work at Anna Pappas Gallery and Melbourne project spaces, including West Space, Kings Ari and C3 Contemporary Art Space.
Collision Level is supported by the City of Yarra through a Small Project Grant.
