Members of the Fitzroy History Society began collecting interviews in 2015 for their project entitled The Life and Times of Fitzroy from the 1950s.

Talking to long-term residents of Fitzroy, the project produced audio files, transcripts and photographic portraits that give insight into the residents’ contrasting lives, and the life of this colourful suburb.

This exhibition showcases the portraits taken by photographer Tony Knox, which record the residents in a moment in time as they retell their stories for the project.

The oral, visual and written material produced as part of the project are kept as part of the Local History Collection of the City of Yarra Library and can also be accessed on the Fitzroy History Society website.

Exhibition can be viewed during Fitzroy Library opening hours.
