Yarra Park Life
Sunday 31 December 2017
For the second time, Yarra City Council is proud to present Yarra Park Life! A low-key, free, family-friendly suite of activities on the afternoon of New Year’s Eve, Sunday 31 December at Edinburgh Gardens.
The Yarra Dog Show and Awards co-hosted by Good Dog Behaviour continues with its sophomore return between 2-4pm at the Alfred Crescent Pavilion, off-leash dog area (within Edinburgh Gardens). There is something for everyone. Free entry and fantastic doggo friendly prizes and awards are up for grabs.
Puppy Tales Rescue will be selling Australia’s best (and vegetarian and vegan friendly), Funky Pies between 12pm and 8.00pm alongside the delectable lattes of Oscar the Vintage coffee van and Billy Van Creamy finest ice-creams all afternoon.
And at sundown, we have families and locals covered for a late afternoon/early evening free programme
This year, the gardens cinema will host a number of free films including Oddball for the kids at 7.40pm and Hidden Figures for the adults at 9.45pm, alongside popcorn and film snack vendor run by animal rescue group Maneki Neko.
Odd Ball Synopsis: An eccentric chicken farmer, with the help of his granddaughter, trains his mischievous dog Oddball to protect a penguin sanctuary from fox attacks in an attempt to reunite his family and save their seaside town. Rated PG.
Hidden Figures Synopsis: Three female African-American mathematicians provide crucial calculations for NASA's space race against the Soviets, all while dealing with the racist and sexist assumptions of their white co-workers. Kevin Costner, Kirsten Dunst, and Jim Parsons co-star in what critics describe as one of the best films of 2017. Rated PG
Plus, you’ll be able to view the city fireworks (before and after the films) at 9.30pm (for the kids) and midnight (for adults) from your picnic blanket in Yarra’s finest park.
The Edinburgh Gardens pathways have additional ambient lighting and toilet provisions around the Alfred Crescent Pavilion to help create a safe, easy and family-friendly atmosphere.
While New Year’s Eve celebrations are welcome in all of Yarra’s parks and gardens, there will be zero tolerance for anti-social behaviour.
Please note all parks are alcohol free on New Year’s Eve.
